Teaching Tip
You don't have to sing a song to start the class, or you can choose a different song. You might prefer a song that reviews other vocabulary or a favorite song that motivates your class.

May I have…?
DEMONSTRATE
Ask a volunteer for a book. Use actions to show your meaning while you say May I have the book, please? Say Thanks when the student gives you the book. Repeat this with other volunteers, but vary the question. For example:
May I have a/ the/your __, please? (book, chair, desk)
May I have it, please?( Point to any object. )
Teach the class the word please. Use translation. write it on the blackboard. Say it, please and again, please encourage the class to repeat it with you a few times.
In Chinese, explain that English speakers say please whenever they ask someone to do something or give them something. Thanks and Thank you mean the same thing: Xie xie. Thank you is more formal than thanks.
Point to the word-cards for May I have __, please? Ask the class to repeat the phrase with you a few times.
