1. Communicative Approach
2. Task-based Language Teaching Approach
3. Group Cooperating Teaching Approach
Learning strategies:
While watching videos, write down some key words.
Know that a good passage must have a clear structure, correct grammar and different expressions.
Improve their writing skills by speaking.
Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Warming up
Play a game. Have a competition. Each group choose a number, they will see three pictures on the screen, their group member should describe the pictures in thirty minutes. If they can finish the task in thirty seconds, they will win and get 5 points for their team. If not, they will lose the game.
In this way, the students can review the places of interest in Unit 1.
Step 2 Talk about Jenny’s trip
Talk about Jenny’s trip to the Silk Road, so that the students can describe their travels with correct transitional words, such as first(the first stop, on the first day), then, after that, finally(the last stop, on the last day) . This is the preparation for the students’ writing.
Step 3 Watch a video.
Before watching the video, get the students to read the following questions:
1. Where does Chang Tianxun/Qu Jiayi plan to go?
2. When will he/she go there?
3. How will he/she go there?
4. How long will he/she stay there?
5. What will he/she do there?
Tell the students to write down some information while watching the video.
After watching the video, ask one student to come in front of the class and be a teacher, asking questions.
First, the students answer these questions, then ask them to talk about Chang Tianxun’s/Qu Jiayi’s travel plans.
Step 4 Talk about how to write a travel plan.
Help the students to analyze how to write a travel plan.
1. Ask yourself some questions.(where, when, who, how, what...)
2. Write down the answers.(use full sentences)
3. Put the answers into the right order. (different answers in different paragraphs)
Then, talk about the structure and ask the students how to use different expressions in their travel plans.
Step 5 Work in groups:Write a plan for a 5-day trip.
