Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead in

Students learn key words and phrases by looking at pictures of the school volunteers’ group:

group, member, gather, purpose, regret.

One student comes to the blackboard to match the words with their meanings and check.

Step 2 Pre-reading

Students review Task 2 of Section B, and find out the two questions that Kangkang asked Craig to prepare for reading.

Step 3 While-reading

Skimming

Students skim the text quickly and locate the answers to the two questions:

Q1: Who wrote the letter?

Q2: What’s the letter talking about?

Scanning

Teacher gives students the first reading tip. Then students listen and scan the passage to match each paragraph with its main idea.

Tip 1: Read and find the key words or sentences of each paragraph.
