4. Teaching Procedures

Step1 Pre-reading (Lead-in)

I’d like to act as a tiger with a picture of “王”on the forehead and get the students to guess who I am, and tell the students that I used to live a comfortable life ,but now I’m homeless and feel very lonely and have to ask for help.

The purpose of my lead-in is to attract the students’ attention for them to think more about how to save the tiger so as to arouse the Ss’ interest in learning.

Step2 :While-reading

Task 1: Skimming

Doing fast reading is a good way to train the students’ ability of reading comprehension, so the first thing I’d like to do is to ask the students to look through the passage and find the main idea of each paragraph within very short time.

Task 2: Scanning

In order to help the students understand the passages better, I’d like to get the students to read the passages again and find out the sentences to support the main idea. “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the Ss’ ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.

Work in pairs to talk about some questions in different paragraphs after reading the passage.

e.g. Questions:

1.What’s the number at the beginning of the 20th century? What about today’s number?

2.Why are tigers important to the environment?

3. Why are tigers in danger of disappearing?

Step3. Post-reading(Discussing)

As the students know the whole reading passage, I’d like to get them to work in groups to have a discussion about the ways to protect animals and then give a report about how we should get on well with animals. After the students’ discussion, a representative from each group may present their report to the class. This is a good way to train the students’ ability of team work.

Step4. Summary

At the end of the class, I’d like to give a summary that animals are our friends, each of us has the responsibility to protect animals. There is saying “One world, one dream”, but here I’d like to say “One world, one home”. Let’s work together to build a beautiful home for the animals to create a harmonious world.

Step5 Homework

My homework in this lesson is to get the students to write a report about how to protect animals. Homework is important and necessary for the students to master the knowledge they have learned. Also it is a good way to cultivate the students' comprehensive ability.

5. Blackboard Design

While teaching, I will use a mind map to show the structure of the text so that the students may get a clue of the text and have a better understanding of the whole text.

6. Teaching Reflection

As a teacher, what I should do in teaching is to act as a guider, an organizer and a director who play a role to help the students to become more independent and successful learners.
