IV. Teaching procedure:

1. Lead-in

Let the students get to know what composition they need to write in this lesson.

2. Presentation and Practice

(1) Learn the four steps of writing a composition-审,定,写,改。

(2) Review three skills and learn a new skill about how to support the main idea.

Students read some paragraphs and find the skills by themselves.

The teacher makes an example first, and then students try to practice using the skills in groups. Every group write a sentence using each skill and use them in one composition.

Skill 1: Using numbers.

Skill 2: Giving examples.

Skill 3: Making comparison.

Skill 4: Cause and effect.

V. Homework

Students write the composition using the four skills.

VII. Teaching reflection.

Most students know how to use the four skills after this lesson and can use them in their composition. But some students still feel skill 3 a little difficult to use and some students use the three skills just in order to use them. In the next lesson, students should try to practice using skill 3 more and try to make use them smoothly and correctly to support the main idea.
