Step 1 Leading in

1. Creating situation: The teacher tell students that we’ll hold a school festival called English Story Time, all the students are ought to tell interesting stories in this festival and if they perform well, they will win a golden medal and a special present.

2. Free talk: The teacher shows some pictures of stories to students and asks them to talk about these stories in groups.

3. Raising a question: The teacher tells students that Wang Lingling wants to join the festival English Story Time, but she doesn’t know how to tell a story. Then the teacher asks students how to tell a story. If we aren’t able to do it, we can review the story we have read to get some help.

Step 2 Revision

1. The teacher asks students which story we have read in this module and use pictures to help students recall the main characters in this story.

2. The teacher asks students which tense should we use in a story, and then show some typical words like walk, live, stop, and try. The teacher asks a student to come to the front and write down the past forms of these words on the screen.

3. Group competition: The teacher shows some pictures of the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears and then asks students to retell the story sentences by sentences according to the pictures. Students who can describe the pictures correctly will win a point for their group.

4. Show a complete paragraph of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and let students find the words which make the story more coherent.

5. The teacher shows a picture of Tom and asks students to complete the story about Tom.

Step 3 Telling a story

1. The teacher shows a picture of the story that Wang Lingling wants to tell, and asks the students which story Lingling wants to tell.

2. The teacher shows six pictures in time sequence. There is a verb used for each picture. The teacher asks students to change the verbs into past forms.

3. The teacher asks students to describe each picture with a sentence. Some of them are invited to write down their answers on the screen.

4. The teacher asks students to put the sentences together to make a story. They should use words like and, so, but, because, first, next, and then and finally to make their story coherent.

5. The teacher shows a story of a student and tells the class that Lingling isn’t happy when she gets the story because it isn’t interesting enough. Then the teacher raises some questions to help students add more details to their story.

6. The teacher presents an excellent story and let students enjoy it.

Step 4 Cultural learning

The teacher asks students to read the passage in “around the world” together and answer some relative questions.

Step 5 Homework

1. The students must finish the story “Jingwei filled up the sea”.

2. The students can challenge themselves and tell their favorite stories to others in English.
