Part1. Lead-in the topic.

Show a video of ways of saying hello in different countries. Ask the students to guess which countries are the people from.

Whole- class work:

Students watch the video carefully and try to review t the countries’ names and their ways of saying hello.Help the students review the names of countries and recall the knowledge that they have learnt before. Engage them in the topic: body language.Presentation of the sentence patterns of imperative sentences

Practice in pairs.

Part2.Tasks to help students to summarize the different kinds of imperative sentences and sentences to give suggestions.

1. Ask the students to do a matching game to match the names of countries and their ways of saying Hello.

2. The teacher gives the students a task by showing a video. In the video, a student named Bill asks for suggestions. The teacher asks the students to work in pairs and make a list of do’s and don’ts for help Bill in one minute.

3. Ask students to share their lists of do’s and don’ts for Bill.

4. Ask students to rewrite the sentences in part3 and learn the sentence patterns of “It is +adj.+ to do... ”

5. Ask students to do try to rewrite the sentences by another sentence pattern: You had better(not)+Verb.

6. Use a mind map to help students summarize the 6 sentence patterns to give suggestions. 3 are imperative sentences, the other 3 are, It’s + adj. +to do, You can/should/must do, and You had better(not)+do.

7. In order to consolidate the 6 sentence patterns, the students should work in pairs to finish a matching game. Match the 6 sentence patterns with 12 sentence examples.

8. Give another 4 important sentences that are often used. Imperatives sentences and; Imperative sentences + or; Answers to Imperative sentences:

II. Group work: work in groups of 4. Try to write an email to give suggestions about ways of saying hello in different countries.

Students write 4 different paragraphs of the whole passage: the beginning, the body1, the body2, the ending.

Ask the students to read their composition paragraph by paragraph to the class.

1.Students work in pairs and try to write as quick as possible, they can work together. One student says and the other student writes.

2.Two students learn to give suggestions by making lists. They can use imperative sentences.

3.Some students read the new words to the class.

4.Students try to summarize the sentence patterns by themselves.

Then, the students read the 5 sentences which have been rewritten into imperative sentences in part 3 together loudly.

5.Try to practice to use You had better sentence patterns to rewrite the 5 sentences in part 3.
