* Ability of using the language

To some extent, they have developed the comprehensive ability of using the language. But they are not able to understand certain infinitive structures as a way of expressing the purpose.

* Thinking and attitudes

The creative thinking in saving the panda and love for those animals are very important for students in this unit, so it will be crucial to improve those in the learning.

* Reading skills

Students understand some reading skills to some extent, and they will practice using the reading skills to get the main idea and the detailed information.

3. Teaching objectives

Based on the understanding of the new curriculum amendment, I will summarize my teaching objectives as follows,

By the end of the class, students will be able to:

* Cognize some key vocabularies, phrases and the infinitive structure in the passage( situaition, scientist, nature, set up and in order to...).

* Use their reading skills (skimming and scanning) to grasp the main idea and get the details from the passage.

* Learn to write a short passage about one kind of endangered animal.

* Realise their own love for the animals and desire to protect them.

4. Teaching key and difficult points

* The key points:

(1) Understand the main idea and structure of the passage.

(2) Write a short passage about the endangered animals.

* The difficult point:

Write a short passage about the endangered animals.

5. Teaching and learning methods

Considering the features of the reading material, I will use PWP and interactive teaching approach. The teaching course will be from the main idea to detailed information, then back to the protection of endangered animals.

Guided by the learning-centered activities, students will learn by individual work, pair work, group work and report.

6. Teaching procedures

To achieve the teaching objectives effectively, I’ll introduce my general idea of my design before the presentation of the teaching procedures. I divide them into three parts. (pre-reading, while reading and post reading). Here are the teaching procedures:

* Pre-reading

To lead in the lesson, I present a short Sichuan propaganda video about pandas. The video introduces the living situation about the panda and the numbers of the panda left. .According to the video, the teacher asks students three basic questions about the panda. For example, “Where does it live? What food does it feed on? How many pandas are left?” and get into the topic. And the teacher presents some new words in the video and pictures to pave the way for reading (southwest, situation, nature, develop, symbol).

Purpose: In the process, the students can get some basic information about the panda and activate their own background knowledge. And it can also arouse their interest in this topic.

* While- reading.

(1) Predict

After lead-in, the students read the headings together and predict the orders of the headings.
