Activity I. Warming-up
Show Ss some comparing pictures of the city and the countryside.
Ask Ss a question: Which one do you like better, the city or the countryside? Why? Ss will share their opinions about the city and the countryside.
Purpose: To have Ss watch about the good and bad sides of the city and the countryside and hope them to think about the differences.
Activity II. Presentation.
Ask a S some questions:
Where do you live, in a village, a town or a city?
Where did your parents live when they were children?
Why do people move to cities?
Purpose: To make sure Ss know the main reason why the city grows fast is that most of them want to find jobs and have a better life.
Activity III. Reading
Skimming:
Ask Ss to read the passage as fast as they to find the proper words to fill in the blanks:

Detail reading:
Ask Ss read the passage for the second time and finish the form.

Live in a small house
go to a school with 2,000 pupils far away
Then have Ss read P2 again and think : How did Parkville become part of Arnwick? They will fill in the blanks.
