By the end of the lesson, the students who have good living habits and are in excellent condition will be able to give advice to others with health problems and write a passage about how to keep healthy, while the students who are not healthy enough will be able to talk about their own heath problems and make a healthy plan for themselves based on the advice given by others.
In order to achieve this objective, students are supposed to:
summarize the expressions about health problems and the ways to keep healthy.
evaluate the condition of their own health according to the self-test.
understand the reading material and describe Alan’s, Babara’s and John’s problems.
use the present perfect tense together with since or for to answer such questions as
how long ...?
give advice on Alan’s, Babara’s and John’s problems in a cooperative way.
have awareness of the importance of healthy living.
care for others’ and their own health.
Teaching focus:
Help students talk about their own physical and psychological health problems.
Guide students to give advice on health problems, and to add examples to make
advice more specific and useful.
Anticipated difficulties:
Students may find it hard to accurately describe their health problems to others.
Solutions: Guide them to read three students’ problems as examples, and to sum up the main points.
Some students may have difficulty in giving advice, and some may fail to give specific or practical advice .
Solutions: Encourage them to finish the task in groups so that they can help each other. Then show them one of the suggestions given by Dr. Zhang to help them learn how to make advice more specific and useful.
Methodology:
Situational language teaching and task-based approach are basically applied in this lesson. Teaching aids:
