1. Lead-in
Create the chain situation that the smurfs just came to visit China and discover some great new inventions. Show the pictures and ask Ss to guess what the specific great inventions are and try to describe each of them. Note down what the Ss have expressed.
Guess and describe.
Arouse Ss’ interest and prepare the words for writing.
2. Summary for word use
Tell the Ss to summarize the part of speech of the words noted down in the previous part for invention description.
Summarize the rule.
Inspire Ss to summarize the part of speech of the words used.
3. Pre-writing
1. Create the chain situation that the smurfs decided to make a new invention—the flying car, and they shared their passage of the new invetion with Ss.
2. Help Ss analyze the structure of describing an invention.
3. Help Ss summarize some sentence patterns for the body part.
1. Think about the structure.
2. Summarize other sentence patterns for the body part.
Encourage Ss to use what they learnt and learn the structure of describing an invention.
4. While- writing
Create the chain situaiton that the smurfs want Ss to join the WICYS with them with the Ss’ own inventions
Group work : Ask Ss to write in groups according to the structure and sentence patterns prepared.
With the help of the structure and sentence patterns, complete an article to describe the inventions they designed and drew before class.
Encourage Ss to Practice writing according to what they analyzed and summarized.
