This is a language use period so the focus is to engage students to use language in a communicative way. That is to use prepositions about time and pronouns about people as well as other expressions about school to make a leaflet introducing their own school. Anticipated difficulties:

Students may feel it difficult to

summarize what to mention when they introduce their school;

make a leaflet about their school.

Solutions:

Stimulate students to brainstorm different aspects about school by showing pictures and asking questions.

Before the class, students read two leaflets about schools in both Chinese and English. Finish a mind map on what can be introduced about their own school and words they may use.

Students make sentences about their own school or school life and finish activity 5 on page 15.The pre-class assignment is to get students prepared to introduce their own school in terms of genre, content and language. Step1. Lead in (1 minutes)

The teacher shares the good news that the School Open Day is coming and invites students to make some leaflets about their own school for visitors. This step is to lead in the topic and create a context as well as give a communicative purpose for the task.

Step 2 Brainstorming (4 minutes)

Students brainstorm different aspects about school by looking at pictures or answering questions.This step is to activate students’ background knowledge about school and get them prepared for the following activities.
