Teaching Key and Difficult Point:

How to help the students master some effective skills of analysing the writing task and use them in their writing.

Teaching Procedures:

Step1. Greetings

Greet the whole class as usual.

Step 2: Background information

Present the Examination Syllabus and draw students’ attention to the writing tasks in the last eight years to lead in the topic of the lesson.

Step 3: Before- writing

Task One:

Students read the example letter and deal with the exercise on the learning sheet. They are guided to sum up the structure of the model letter.

Task Two:

The students reread the letter and are asked to find out some sentence patterns to express writing purpose and offer advice, which are helpful for them to get prepared for the following learning process.

Students are also given some time to discuss in groups to list some other ways to offer advice in a polite way.

Step 4: While- writing

Firstly, present the writing steps on the screen for students to refer to.

Then, give them a writing task. The students are required to finish the task step by step.

Explore the topic

Students are asked to decide the writing style, person, tense, writing purpose and the main points.

Make a list of main points

Students are required to make a list of main points using correct phrases.

Make sentences and paragraphs

Students are encouraged to make sentences with four different sentence patterns.

Then , guide them to compare two versions and draw a conclusion that it is necessary to use proper linking words in the letter so as to make the essay more convincing and natural.

Write the letter

They are given 10 minutes to finish writing the letter.

Check for mistakes

Tell students they can check mistakes from the following aspects: spelling, grammar, tense, person and word number.
