II. Presentation.

1.T: Now let’s listen to a chant. When you listen, you should find out the sound you hear the most. OK? Begin.

After listening ,T asks: Who can tell me? Which sound do you hear the most? Hands up. S: /ei/.

T: En, yes./ei/. Look, wait, Monday, day. These words have the sound /ei/. Because they have the letters “ai” or “ay”.

T: Today we’ll learn other words with “ai” or “ay”. Look, can you read?

Present the new words “rainy, rainbow, paint, wait, say, way, birthday, Monday.

T: What rules can you find? Yes, “ai” says /ei/, “ay”says /ei/, too. Now I’ll become a magician. I’ll change the words. Look, what happened? What rules can you find now? Pay attention to the position.

Then tell the students that “ai” is always in the middle of the words and “ay” is always at the end.

Ask the students read the words like this:

Listen, read and circle.

Listen to the recording and circle the words they hear. Then check the answers and read the words.

Look at the pictures and listen to the recording, then finish the sentences.

Picture talking.

Look at the pictures and talk about them. Help the students to read the sentences. After that, ask the students fill in the blanks to finish the sentences. Then check the answers. At last, the Ss read together.

III. Summary.

1.T: After this class , we know “ai” and “ay” have the same sound /ei/. In fact , they have a good friend. That is“a-e”, it says /ei/, too.

Then let the students read the words with “ai”, “ay” or “a-e”.

T: “ai” has another name /?/, do you know? Look at this words , can you read?

Help the students to read the words “mountain, curtain, certainly, fountain”.

Ask two students to group the words above into four groups.

ai /ei/ rain rainy gain main

ay /ei/ today Monday say play

a-e/ei/ grape hate name safe

ai /?/ mountain fountain curtain certainly

T: At last, let’s learn a proverb.Can you read?

Let the students read the proverb “No pains, no gains.”
