Teaching procedures:

Step 1.Revision

Sing a song WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO to revise BE GOING TO that we learnt in this unit.

Step 2.Warming-up

Show a picture of Fu Yuanhui, and ask the students: Who is she? What can she do very well?

Then ask some students: Can you swim? How did you learn to swim?

Step 3.Presentation

Show the picture of Zip and Zoom. Look and say: Can Zoom swim?Let’s watch the video. Play the video and know the story.

Step 4.Reading and learning

1).Ask the students: What is Zoom going to do tomorrow?Then let the students read Paragraph One and answer the question. Check the answer.

2). Ask the students: How does Zoom learn to swim first?Then let the students read Paragraph Two and answer the question. Check the answer.

3). Ask the students: Where do they go later?Then let the students read Paragraph Three and answer the question. Check the answer.

4). Ask the students: What will happen then?Then let the students read Paragraph Four and Paragraph Five, and answer the question. Check the answer.

5). Ask the students: Can Zoom swim at last?Why?Then let the students read Paragraph Six and answer the questions. Check the answers. Help the students get the meaning of the story: learn by doing.

When we read the story, I help the students learn the difficult language items in the story.

Step 5.Practice and consolidation

1).Let’s watch and read. Get the students to watch the video completely. Then let the students read after me one sentence by one. Next let the students read after the tape one paragraph by one. At last get the students to watch the video completely again.

2). Let’s dub. Play the video without sound, get the students to dub the story. Ask two pairs of students to perform before the class.

3). Let’s retell. Ask students to prepare to retell the story for several minutes, then ask two students to retell the story before the class.

Step 6.Emotional education

Teacher: Boys and girls, what can you do? How did you learn it?

Let students discuss and say what they can do and how they learned.

Show some pictures (ride a bike, play basketball, learn English) and talk with students.

e.g. T: Can you ride a bike? Did you learn it on TV? Did you learn it only by reading books? Did you learn it only by listening to your parents? Of course not. We must ride then we can learn to ride a bike. So we should always remember“Learn by doing”.

Step 7.Summary

Summarize this class.

Step 8.Homework

A. Read the story after class.

B. Share the story with your family.
