Students learn to use proper expressions to make?conversations?about?shopping.

Step I.? lead?in?

Tell students that Christmas is coming and they want to buy some presents for their best friends. Help them to think about what aspects they should consider before shopping, such as interests, hobbies, price and so on.

Lead in the topic of shopping and present the important phrase: buy sth. for sb./buy sb. sth.

Step II Presentation

Ask students to practice the pattern “I want to buy …for my best friend … because she/he … Students take turns to make sentences to consolidate it.

Encourage students to think about other things they should consider while shopping so that lead in the key word “enough”. Help students understand the meaning of “have enough + n. + to do sth. /for sth. And then do drills of the pattern.

Step III Role play

1.Show some pictures and encourage students to make conversations about buying them. Focus on: Can I help you?/ What can I do for you?

I want to buy/ would like to buy/ am looking for … for…

Just a minute/moment.

2. T: How can the shopkeeper introduce the goods? Help students to practise the following expressins:

Here are some nice ….

There are different kinds of ….

What kind would you like?

Take/Have a look.

Step IV Presentation

After practicing the dialogues above, guide the students towards the topic “asking about price”

How much is/are …?

It’s/They’re…yuan.

How much do/does … cost?

It costs/They cost … yuan.

What’s the price of …?

It’s … yuan.

2. Students do some exercises to consolidate the uses of “cost” because of its complex usages

3. Arouse students’ interest in bargaining:

consumer: It’s too expensive.

/ The price is too high.
