Step1 Lead-in
Play the song called Jingle Bell and have a free talk with students.
T: This is a lovely song. Do you enjoy it? Do you know its name?
You can have a guess.
(Write down the new word “guess” on the blackboard)
T: If you don’t know something or you are not sure about something, you can have a
guess.
(Explain the meaning of “guess”)
T: The song is Jingle Bell. When do we sing this song?
Ss: At Christmas.
(Write down the new word “Christmas” on the blackboard)
T: Christmas is a western festival. On that day, children get a lot of presents from their parents. And people celebrate the festival by making a Christmas tree.
(Write down the new words “festival”, “present”, and “celebrate” on the blackboard)

Step 2: Presentation
Show six pictures to students to learn some festivals.(They are Halloween, Mid-Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Thanksgiving Day)
T: Besides Christmas, what other festivals do you know?
(Show a picture with a pumpkin lantern on it and guide students to answer: It is Halloween.)
T: What do we usually do on that day?
Ss: We usually make a pumpkin lantern.
(Present the other five pictures in the same way. )
