Step1. Revision
Students play a game to review the vowels: [e?] [i:] [a?] [??] [u:] [?] [e] [?] [?] [?]
Step2.Presentation
1. With a flash video of PPAP, lead in some words with the consonant [p]
2. Pay attention to the letters in red in these words and tell the students that the sound of the consonant is [p]
3. Get the students to listen and repeat the consonant [p]
4. Show some pictures , students fill the words with the these consonants [b] [t] [d] [k] [g] [h] [m] [n] [?] [l] [r] [j] [w] in the blanks to complete the sentences to describe the pictures.
5.Students pay attention to the letters in red and learn how to make the sounds of these consonants.
6. After presenting how to make the sound [?] , tell students the rule that if the letter “k”, “g” or “c” comes after the letter “n” , the letter “n” usually makes the sound [?]. But the letter “n” in “orange” makes the sound [n]
Step3 Summary
Instruct the students to read these consonants with the hand at the throat to feel the vibrations of the vocal cords and tell them that these consonants can be separated into three kinds:
Voiceless consonants: [p] [t] [k] [h]
Voiced consonants: [b] [d] [g] [m] [n] [?] [l] [r]
Semivowels: [j] [w]
Step 4 Practice
Students listen carefully and tell what consonants the words have.
Step 5 Presentation
1. Students read the words with these consonants and the sounds together and pay attention to some rules of pronunciation:
1)“wh” can make the sound[h] or [w]
2) When words start with “kn” , the letter “k” is silent, “kn” makes the sound [n]
3) When words start with “wr” , the letter “w” is silent, “wr” makes the sound [r]
2. Encourage students to read the words in Part A on Page 39
1)Students read the words and tell the different sounds of the red letters in the words one by one.
2) Listen and read the words and the consonants together
3. Tell the students that some consonants can be confusing like:
/n/ & /?/ Monday monkey thin thing sun sung
/l/ & /r/ light right long wrong low row
/l/ & /n/ light night line nine low know
/n/ & /r nose rose need read nice rice
get the students to listen and repeat, and ask them to pay more attention
