ⅢTeaching procedures
Step1. Warming up and leading in
1) Free talk: talk about a beautiful picture and how to read the word “beach”.
2) Video: watch a video about the different sounds between “beach” and “bitch”
[Purpose] Arouse students’ interest in the IPA to understand the importance of correct pronunciation and lead the students to the task.
Step2. Presentation
1) Read the following words, and pay attention to the sounds of the letter groups;
[Purpose] Get students to study the sounds of the specific letter groups.
2) Show the international phonetic symbols;
3) Two videos: [i?],[i]; [e], [?];
[Purpose] Help the students to review the international phonetic symbols and the differences sounds of the two pairs vowels.
4) Read and find: put the words in the correct place according to the sounds;
[Purpose] Have the students observe the sounds of the letter groups and work out the rules.
Step3. Practice
1) Listen and read;
2) Read and practise;
[Purpose] The step is designed to check whether the students have mastered the sounds of the specific letter groups.
Step4. Production
1) Read and judge;
2) Read and find;
3) Play the Tongue twisters;
[Purpose] Train the students to read the specific letter groups correctly and fluently, and develop students’ spoken ability
Step5. Homework
Must do:
Read the letter groups and phrases in this lesson correctly and fluently. Tomorrow morning, please read them aloud.
