Step 1: Lead-in and warm-up 【2 minute】

Greeting and poem-chanting: The teacher introduces the new unit and leads students to chant a poem on her own pet.

T: Welcome to Unit 8, Task. We will write about our pets. Exciting? Do you know I have a pet? With your hands, say it after me!

Here is my dog, Ben.

She is already ten.

She is cute and looks like a ball.

Her eyes are bright and she’s quite small.

【Purpose】:

1. The teacher frankly makes the students know about the new unit with its general objective at the beginning of this class.

2. The chant is to arouse students’ interest on pet, guide them to feel the rhythms in poem and show them the way to describe a pet.

Step 2: Presentation 【15 minutes】

Task 1: Read and report details

Students read the article in their handouts and answer questions (the pet’s name, age, color, eyes, size, weight, favourite food, character, how to be looked after and her special point) as quickly as they can.
