1.Greetings: Is everybody here? OK, now let’s begin our lesson.
1.Watch a video “Knock , knock” and answer a question:
Where does everyone want to have lunch?
Step 2.Presentation
1.Look at the three sentences in the video:
Can you see anything?
I'm sure there's no one at home.
Come and have something to drink.
Ask the students to pay attention to the words in red and ask if they refer to definite things or people. Then teacher says we call these words indefinite pronouns.
Communicate with the students to check their understanding: Do you like pets? Does anybody keep a pet in our class? (Oh, I’m glad to know that somebody / someone in our class has a pet.) Write anybody, somebody and someone on blackboard.
Let the students think about what we use indefinite pronouns to talk about. They can discuss in groups.
Summarize together:We use indefinite pronouns to refer to people or things when we don’t know or don’t need to mention who or what we are talking about.
Step 3:Presentation
Ask the students to find out how to form the indefinite pronouns.Write down the words by themselves.
Ask them which indefinite pronouns refer to people and which indefinite pronouns refer to things.
Present some pictures and sentences and let the students find out what sentence-types we should use these indefinite pronouns. Then summarize together with the students:
We use someone / somebody / something in positive sentences. We use anyone / anybody / anything in negative sentences or in questions. We use nobody, no one and nothing to refer to "not anyone / not anybody" and "not anything".We use everybody, everyone and everyone to refer to "all people " and " all things".
Go on showing pictures and sentences to express how to use something and someone in questions.
Would you like something to drink?
These boxes are so heavy. Why not ask someone to help you?
So, when we are offering something or when we expect the answer to be “yes”,we can use something, somebody and something in questions.
Let the students find out how to use adjectives and indefinite pronouns together.
There is something wrong with the bike.
Is there anything interesting in the newspaper?
So, we can only use adjectives after indefinite pronouns.
6.What rules can you find in the following sentences?
There is something to eat here.
Is there anything interesting in the newspaper?
I'm sure there is no one at home.
Summarize: Everything / something / anyone....is regarded as singular number(单数), we use singular form in predicate verb(谓语)
