2. Ask Ss: Can you tell me something amazing about these animals?
(1) What can snakes do in winter?
(2) What can camels do?
(3) What do you know about giraffes?
(4) Can ants smell well?
Step 2 Pre-writing
1. Tell the Ss: Simon collected some information about amazing things. Let’s have a look. Then show them pictures of the sandwich and some information about it. Ask Ss questions like this:
(1) Do you lie eating sandwiches?
(2) Where did “sandwich” get its name from?
(3) What did the man make a sandwich?
2. Show the picture of TV and some information about it, then ask Ss questions:
(1) Does your family have a TV?
(2) How many TVs do you have?
(3) When and where was the first TV show?
(4) How many TVs were in use per 100 Chinese families in 1987?
(5) How big can TVs be now?
3. Remind Ss to pay attention to the new words: sandwich, a piece of, as large as, inch. Help Ss to grasp the usage of them.
Step 3 Sample learning
1. Tell Ss: Simon wrote an article about sandwiches. Ask them to read the passages in Part B.
2. Ask fo ur students to read the four paragraphs one by one.
3. Ask Ss to discuss the structures of the article in groups of two:
Para 1: Introduction Para 2: Give the theme
Para 3: Facts and sandwiches Para 4: feeling
Step 4 While-writing
1. Tell Ss: Now we’ll write about amazing things. You’ve already collected som e facts. Would anyone like to share your amazing things with us? Then ask some of the Ss to tell the class something amazing.
2. Divide Ss into groups of four to discuss the information about amazing things and list their own information in groups according to the note in Part A.
3. Ask students to write their own articles according to the edited information.
Step 5 Post-writing
Choose some of the Ss’ articles to present and g ive them some remarks.
