Teacher has a free talk with Ss about outdoor activities.

Teacher gets Ss to see and remember lots of moving pictures about outdoor activities on the screen and have a memory-testing game.

T gets two Ss to come to the front to compete and gives the winner scores using Class Master.

(Purpose: It means to revise Ss’ interest and consolidate the names of outdoor activities. In the warm-up game for the memory-testing, the foundation and visual angle are formed for learning the simple past tense in the topic of having outdoor activities.)

Step2 Presentation

1.T ask students questions about their outdoor activities in the past and present them on the screen.

e.g. Did you take in outdoor activities in the past?

Did you swim last month/ last week?

Were you good at it?

Could you ride a horse when you were 5 years old?

T leads Ss to answer using ‘Yes, I did/ could/was. ’Or ‘ No, I didn’t /couldn’t/ weren’t’ .

2. T leads Ss to read the Yes/questions and answers on the screen and gets them to discuss and sum up how to form a Yes/No questions and answers in groups.

3. T gets a student to sum up the rules on the blanks and then others check the answers together.

Step 3 Practice

1.T asks Ss if they watched the program ‘Where is Dad going’ in the past and presents some pictures of the program to Ss. T tells Ss they went to Zhagana in Gansu province to have two outdoor activities----Having a game of catching a pig and Having a tug of war. T leads Ss to look at the pictures and ask and answer in the simple past tense. Ss try to practice forming the Yes/No questions and answering them according to the pictures and words given.

e.g. Were they excited?

What activities did they do?...

2.T gets some of the Ss to fill in the blanks and others check their answers together.

(Purpose: T sets a clue that what children did or not and how they felt in outdoor fun, which helps Ss to learn the grammar points in real situations. The exciting activities can catch Ss’ attention. )

Step 4 Presentation

1.On basic of the negative answers and the behavior and expressions of the children, T helps Ss to express 3 negative sentences like below.

e.g. Jasper was not brave enough at first.

Xiao Shanzhu could not catch the pig, she thought.

Enheng didn’t want to take part in the game?

2.T leads Ss to read the sentences above and gets them to discuss in groups to sum up how to form a negative statement in the simple past tense.

3. One of the students come to the front to write the rules on the screen and then others check together.

(Purpose: To lead Ss to think and sum up the rules by themselves.)

Step5 Practise

1.Ss watch the video of Having a tug of war and answer teacher’s questions.
