Step 1 Lead-in

Who is the writer of the story? Ss:

Introduce the writer to the students.

Step 2 Presentation

1. Read the cover of the book.

Look at the cover of the book and know the names of some characters.

2. Read for the outline of the story.

A little girl called and her dog are carried away during a______ to the magical land of .

In order to get back home, Dorothy has to start her long journey. On her way, she makes three friends: ___________, ____________,and ___________. After their hard work, their dreams_____________.

3. Talk about the dreams of the characters.

Get to know the dreams of each character and prepare for analyzing them.

4. Get to know the characters of the story.

Talk about the things that the main character Dorothy does for the friends and recognize what the girl is like.

Then have a free talk. (Do you want to make friends with Dorothy ?Why?) (What can we learn from Dorothy?)

5. Talk about the danger on the way to Oz.

Find the ways that the characters meet the difficulties and analyze the features of them.

Discuss: Does the Lion have any courage? Does the Scarecrow have a brain? Does the Tin Woodman have a heart?

What will you do if your friend is in trouble ?

6. Learn the conversations between the characters and Oz.

Read the conversations and let them think why Oz changes the shape.

Q: If you meet difficulties in studying, what should you do ?

7. Read the end of the story.

When they go to kill the wicked witch of west, what happened to them?

How do they kill the witch? Do their dreams come true at last?

Step 3 Sum up the story.

They meet (困难), but they don't (放弃). At last, their dreams (变为现实).

Step 4 Discuss after reading.
