Teaching Procedure:
Step 1: Lead-in
Students enjoy a Short Video and discuss a question “What makes a fireman?”
Students learn the key word-- brave.
Step 2: Pre- reading
Students know more about Lin Tao by reading the first paragraph
Students fill in the table about Lin Tao’s name, age and good deed.
Step3: While-reading
Students watch a short video of the passage.
Students find out 4 places appearing in order.
Students read each paragraph carefully according to the related place.
Students complete exercises in different forms to check how well they have
understand the passage.
Students may have difficulty in answering the problem“ Why did Lin Tao pour
himself wet and put a wet blanket over Mrs. Sun?”. They watch the experiment performed by their teacher with lighter, tissue and water. They may have a direct and clear impression of the answer.
Step 4: Post-reading
Students try to retell the story place by place with the key information written on
the blackboard.
Students share teacher’s moment (朋友圈) about Lin Tao’s story and try to think
about how to be careful with the fire. They discuss to complete the related exercise.
Students are encouraged to discuss more about how to protect themselves while
it’s on fire. They may be given many pictures. They need to tell whether they are right or wrong with the help of useful expressions.
Students are enlightened to pay attention to a special day—Primary and Middle
Student’s Safety Education Day.
Students watch another video about the traffic safety. They may discuss and try to
give advice to their parents on how to drive car safely.
