Q: What is simple past tense? When do we use simple past tense?
表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态:
(1) It was rainy yesterday.
(2) I played computer games yesterday evening.
表示过去经常或反复发生的动作:
(3) My father often went to work by bus last year.
(4) When I was a child, I often listened to music.
In a word, we use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past.

When we meet some adverbials of time ,we should use the simple past tense. Can you tell me some word phrase about past time?

Read the story quickly and answer the questions: Who did the tree love? What did the boy need at first? Was the tree happy at last? (The tree loved a boy. He needed some money. The tree was happy).

Listen to the story and circle the past forms of the verbs out.
