Step 1:Free talk & Lead-in
Show the students a video at the beginning of the class. It is about places of interest around the world. After watching the video, ask the students some questions:
Do you like travelling? Where do you want to travel? Why?
If you have a chance to go on a trip now, what will you take with you ?
Step 2:Presentation of Welcome to the unit
T: It’s necessary to take a map when we travel. Otherwise, we will get lost easily. Therefore, first we?must?learn?directions?before?reading?the?map.
Teach?students?the words?of?directions.
Practice: A woman wants to visit the Golden Gate Bridge, but she doesn't?know?the?way. Ask students to help her. Show the directions.
3. Let?them?read?the?map,?find?out?the?places?in?Sunshine?Town?by?understanding?the?structure:
be?+?direction?+?of.
Sunshine Zoo is north of Sunshine Middle School.
Sunny Garden is west of the zoo.
Lake Park is south of Sunny Garden.
Sunshine Park is east of Lake Park.
Work out the rule:
be + direction +of
Continue to practice the sentence structure“be + direction +of ”by giving them more places in the map of Sunshinetown.
Present “to the +direction +of” “in the +direction +of” “on the +direction +of”
Show students some places around my house ,and then make a dialogue:
A:Where is Sunshine Hospital?
B:It’s ( to the) north of my house.
Show students some provinces in the map of China ,and then ask:
T:Where is Jiangsu Province ?
S:Jiangsu is on the south of Shandong.
Make a conclusion of “to/on/in”
Step 3:A school trip
Listen to the dialogue between Daniel and Simon, and then complete the dialogue.
