Ask the students to look at the picture and answer the following questions:
Where are Hi and Lo?
What is Lo worried about?
What does Hi think of the planet?
What do you think of the planet?
Brain-storm
Ask the students to understand what the unknown world is and discuss the questions with your classmates.
Do you think there could be other forms of life in space?
Do you think aliens have visited the Earth?
What might these creatures look like?
Do you think they might be friendly or unfriendly?
Before-reading
The students are going to read a diary about a trip to the unknown world. Look at the heading and guess its content.

Ask the students to talk with partners about the Qs; try to talk about the unknown world as much as possible and finish the exercises. Let Ss be more familiar with the article and train their skinning skill and fast reading.
