IV. Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

1. Watch a video“What shall we do?”, let students feel the linking sounds.

T: Can you catch each word? It is difficult for us to understand every word, because we have some study skills to learn.There are many linking sounds in this children’s song. Do you know linking sounds? Today , we’re going to learn them.

【设计意图:通过看视频,让学生大体感受英语发音中的连读现象,从而引出这一节课的主题:连读。】

Step 2 Presentation

1. Background information about linking sounds.

T: Learning linking sounds can improve our listening and speaking. So, what is linking sounds and how to use them? I want a student to read the information for us.

【设计意图:让学生大致了解连读。】

2. Link a consonant sound with a vowel sound.

(1) Show a picture: an apple. Pay attention to the consonant sound and the vowel sound.

(2) Present more phrases:stand up, in an hour. Encourage students to find out the rules.

(3) Read the phrases loudly and try to read this sentence: You must stand up to eat an apple in an

hour’s time.

(4) Read the phrases of Part A on P27, then listen to the tape and follow it.

(5) Repeat after the teacher and read together.

【设计意图:由最简单的短语连读,鼓励学生自己去发现连读规则,并运用这一规则去尝试有难度的句子。呈现更多的短语,通过学生的跟读模仿,加深对第一种连读的感受。】

3. Join a /r/ sound between the first word ends in -e or -re and the next word begins with a vowel sound.

(1) Show a picture: There are lots of books on the desk.

(2) Present more phrases:for us, here is. Encourage students to find out the rules.

(3) Read the phrases loudly and try to read this sentence: There are four apples on the table and they are for us.

(4) Read the phrases of Part B on P27, then listen to the tape and follow it.

(5) Repeat after the teacher and ask boys and girls to have a competition.

【设计意图:通过图片呈现句子,让学生去发现句子中的连读现象,总结规则并运用这一规则去尝试更有难度的句子。提供更多的短语,通过学生的跟读模仿以及男女生的比赛朗读,更好地熟悉第二种连读现象。】

Join two vowel sounds as if there were a /j/ or /w/ sound between them. (1) Show a picture: We enjoy playing football in the playground!

(2) Present more phrases:go out, the other. Encourage students to find out the rules.

(3) Read the phrases loudly and try to read this sentence: We enjoyed getting ready to go out the other day.

(4) Read the phrases of Part C on P27, then listen to the tape and follow it.
