Step 1: Lead in
1. Enjoy a jazz chant “I get up at seven thirty”. The students can read with the jazz chant.
2. Listen to the jazz chant again to find out how we link sounds.
Step 2. Group work
1. Using an example of the song, read the following phrases and use one or two of them to make sentences.
Try to work out the rule that is we usually link a consonant sound with a vowel sound.?
2. Listen to the boy’s problems and underline the phrases with linking sounds and try to read them
more beautifully.
Work out the rule that is when the first word ends in –r or –re and the next word begins with a vowel sound, we join them together with a /r/ sound between them.
3. Clap hands and read this jazz chant---Tall trees
Work out the rule that is when two consonant sounds of the two words meet, we sometimes do not need to pronounce the first consonant sound.
4.Read the following phrases until you can read them fluently.
We can know that when there are two vowel sounds, we join them as if there were a /j/ or /w/ sound between them.
Step 3. Practice
1. Help the students read correctly and beautifully..
2. Help the students make sentences as more as possible.
3. Listen and correct the wrong sounds..
Step 4 Homework
1. Read Part A, Part B, Part C, Part D over again after class.
2. Read the jazz chant fluently and beautifully.
