Step 1 . Free talk
I’m happy today. My friend will come to Lianyungang tomorrow. She’s an old friend of mine. What can I do for her?
Encourage students to say some ideas.
Step 2 . Presentation and activities
Thank you for giving me so many good ideas. I think a big meal sounds great. But there’s nothing in my home, I’m going to take her to a restaurant. Which is better, Western food or Chinese food? That’s a good idea. I want to order a pizza.
Eddie’s old fiend is coming to visit him. What will he do for his friend?
Listen to the tape and answer the question: How much money do they have?
Encourage students to say: They have only five yuan.
Step 3 . Practice
Listen to the tape again and answer the following questions:
Is there any food in the fridge?
Where does Eddie want to buy food?
What does Eddie want to do with five yuan?
Do you think he can order a pizza? Why or why not?
Red the dialogue after the tape , then group the students into two and read it in the role.
Act the dialogue out and pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.
Step 4 . Presentation and activities
Show Part A to the students and ask: What do they like doing ? please look at the pictures and complete the sentences.
When friends come to visit us. What can we do ?do you have any ideas?
Show some pictures of the places : I’d like to show my friend around our city / town . Do you know the places?
Step 5 . Practice
Where can I take my friend? Can you give me some advice? Encourage students to say: You can take him /her to ....
Work in pairs and ask students to make a dialogue like this:
S1: Where can I take my friend? Can you give me some advice?
S2: You can take him /her to ..../ Why not take him /her to ...?
Play the Part B and complete the match exercises.
