Step 1 Warm-up

1. Show a piece of sound, get students to listen to it carefully. Ask students to talk about the sound using the following questions: Isn’t it stranger? Are you afraid? What do you think of it is?

While someone says that it’s a ghost. Tell students that ‘Actually, there are no such things as ghosts.’

2. However, in the ancient time, people think there are ghosts in the world and people make many ghosts in Chinese history. You must have read some, right?Can you tell us the names of ghost stories? Do you want to read a modern ghost story?

3. Today we’ll read a ghost story. Show the picture in reading on Page 58, get students to talk about the picture with some similar questions: Where are they? How many people are there over there except the two girls? How are they feeling? What may happen?

4. Ask students to pay attention to the caption and the picture. Can you tell me where the story happens and who might see a “ghost’?

Step 2?Presentation

1. Now, here’s the story. Listen carefully and tell me what the ghost was. (The ghost was a little cat.)

2. Read the passage together and answer the questions:

(1) Where did the whisper come from? (It came from the bushes behind the tree.)

(2) Who found the “ghost”? (Andy)

Step 3 Practice

1. Finish off the exercises in Part B3 and check the answers.

2. Students in groups of two complete the exercises in Part B2.

3. The teacher checks the answers and have a discussion about the writing styles about this kind of article.

4. Complete the following passage according the text and the first letter.

One Sunday morning, Millie and Amy s_________ under a big tree in Sunshine Park as u__________. S__________, they heard a w__________. They turned around but found nothing. They asked but nobody r__________. They left q__________. On their way home, they met Andy. He came to the park and s__________ the bushes carefully. He found the ghost was a w__________ cat. Later that day, they took the cat to the animal center.

Step 4 Show

1. Tell Students Andy is a brave and helpful student. Suppose you are reporter and have a interview. It’s the role-play time. Work in pairs. One will be Andy, and the other will be a reporter from your school newsletter.

2. Encourage the reporters to ask as many questions as possible (give them some example like these below):
