Step1.Let students answer some questions with the help of the pictures from the video.

Picture1:What was the policeman doing at 10a.m. last wednesday?

( The policeman was cleaning his car at 10a.m. last Wednesday.)

Picture2:What was the girl doing at that moment?

(She was singing at that moment)

Picture3: What were the children doing from 2:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m last Wednesday?

(The children were skating outside from 2:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m last Wednesday.)

Picture4: What were they doing from 2:00 p.mto 3:00 p.m last Wednesday?

(They were walking from 2:00 p.mto 3:00 p.m last Wednesday. )

Step2. Lead students to make a conclusion about the past continuous tense.

①when we talk about things that were happening at a particular time in the past, we use the past continuous tense.

②Lead students to make a conclusion about how to make positive sentences of the past continuous tense

Step3. Play a guessing game. Show some pictures with part of them covered and ask the students to guess what he/she was doing. Let the students practice using “ Was he doing……?/ Yes, she was. / No, she wasn’t doing ……”

Step4. Lead students to make a conclusion about how to make negative sentences and“Yes/No” questions of the past continuous tense.

Step4. Practice 1

Task Two: Presentation 2—— using “when”, “while” and “as”

Part A: Learn to use “while”

Step1. Show the pictures they watched in Task 1.

Step2. Lead students to make a conclusion: when two long actions happened at the same time, we often use “while” to join them.

Part B: Learn to use “when”, “while” and “as”

Step1. Show some other pictures from the viedo.

Step2. Lead students to make the first conclusion: when the longer action is in the main clause, we often use “when” to join the shorter action. ( longer action + when + shorter action);

Step3. Lead students to make the second conclusion: when the shorter action is in the main clause, we often use “while/ as/ when ” to join the longer action. ( shorter action + while/ as/ when+ longer action)

Step4. Practice2 Fill in the blanks on Page 98

The snowstorm stopped .Some students went to play in the snowstorm.let’s go and see what they were doing,ok?
