Step 1. Warm up
1. Greet and talk.
2. Lead in the topic through Zhalong Nature Reserve.
(Purpose: Ss can warm up and get focused with the help of the free-talk about wild animals and Zhalong Nature Reserve. )
Step 2. Presentation and practice
Task 1:
1. Present some pictures and sentences about Zhalong Nature Reserve.
2. Review information and lead in “to do” to express purpose.
(Purpose: Self-discovery grammar learning method is applied in this procedure through a series of “what for”questions , which can help Ss understand the meaning and function of to-inifinitives to express purpose. Ss’ existed knowledge is activated as well.)
Practice 1:
Match---what people do in Zhalong on P73.
Task 2:
1. Present some pictures and phrases about Chengdu Research Base.
2. Get information and lead in “in order to do” to express purpose.
3. Know different expressions to express purpose and tell the difference.
4. Present more pictures and lead in “in order not to do”.
(Purpose: Self-discovery method is applied again in this procedure to help Ss feel the difference bewteen "to do” and “in order to do”. Ss can not only perceive the language rules but also practise in time. Besides, “in order not to do” is introduced in the real context of Chengdu Research Base.)
Practice 2:
Compete in groups.
(Purpose: Ss work in groups to create as many sentences as they can within a limited time, which is designed for them to develop interest in grammar learning and to better consolidate to-infinitives to express purpose.)
Task 3:
1. Follow Mr. Wu to visit Zhalong Nature Reserve and answer three questions.
2. Present the sentences and find out the structure “verbs+objects+to do”.
(Purpose: Ss keep focused through the questions when watching the video. Inductive method and self-discovery method are applied in this procedure, which can help Ss understand the meaning and function of the structure “verbs+objects+to do”.)
