Teaching Procedures:
1. Lead-in:
Before the class, play a video about the beautiful views of most famous places of interest in Nanjing in different seasons and introduce the theme of the lesson(also the title of the poem)—Seasons of the year.
2. Feel the poem for the first time:
Show a short poem about seasons which is not well-written, and then invite the students to close their eyes to listen to the target poem and compare the two poems.
3. Read, feel and enjoy the poem:
Read the poem one stanza by another. While reading, guide the students understand each stanza at first; and then, lead them to feel the writer’s emotions between the lines; at last, with the help the music, let students express their own feelings about each stanza by reading aloud.
4. Read together and tell the difference between Chinese and Western cultures.
After reading the whole poem, encourage the students to think about why the poem starts from winter instead of spring and compare the difference between Chinese and Western cultures.
5. Homework:
a. Read aloud and recite Seasons of the year.
b. Imitate Seasons of the year and try to create a poem—Seasons of the year in Nanjing by yourself.
