Why did Mr. Craven lock the garden ?
(Because the garden belongs to Mrs. Craven, but she died from an accident , it is the garden that made Mrs. Craven die. Mr. Craven locked the door and hid the key so that nobody could find it and he wanted to forget the garden , either.)

We can learn about the changes in three ways: the beginning, the middle and the end.

在本课的设计中，我注重的是读后指导，这就要求学生课前必须把这本书看完，理清人物关系，掌握故事的内容。整个教学过程是采用“搭脚手架”的模式来设计，从文本内容的输出到情感上的升华，环环相扣，层层递进。首先从本书的标题 The Secret Garden 引发思考: Why is it called The Secret Garden? Why did Mr. Craven lock the garden? 由此而层层深入。本书的重点是讲述两方面的变化，一是表现在环境的变化，二是表现在人物的变化，尤其是Mary 和Colin的变化。所以，课堂给了学生充足的活动时间，让他们畅所欲言，发表自己的见解。在最后设置了一个提升环节:Discuss in groups ①What do you think of Mary?
