Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in
1. Play a song “seasons in the sun”.
2. A daily report about the four seasons
3. Show the pictures of the weather.
Step 2: Presentation (Welcome to the unit Part A)
1. Focus on the topic of the unit. Lead into the bad weather.
2. Show the pictures about some bad weather.
3. Show some pictures of natural disasters
4. Students play a game (Good memories) to remember the names of the natural disasters.
5. Show some pictures of accidents
6. Tell students the difference between natural disasters and accidents.
7. Finish the exercise in Part A on page 93.
Step 3: Presentation (Comic strip)
Ss listen to the tape and answer questions.
(1).What was the weather like?
(2).What happened to Hobo?
(3).What was Hobo doing when it started to rain?
(4).Why didn’t Hobo want to go home alone?
2. Ss read after the tape sentence by sentence.
3. After that, Ss need to fill in the blanks according to the conversation.
4. Ss act out the dialogue.
Step 4: Presentation (Welcome to the unit Part B)
Ss listen to the tape and answer questions about Vivien’s school.
(1). What happened to Vivien’s school last week?
(2). What caused it?
(3). Was anyone hurt?
2. Make a similar dialogue between students
3. Ask two pairs of students to present their dialogue.
