Step 1 Lead-in
1.Greetings and ask students to talk about their subjects learned at school.
2. Introduce American English and British English to students.
Step 2 Presentation
1 Teach students some different words from American English and British English which mean the same thing.
2. Sum up the words and ask students to read them.
Step 3 Practice
1. Match the words of British English with the words of American English.
2. Write the correct words under the pictures below.
Step 4 Presentation
1.Teach students more words which mean the same thing : trousers, candies, post.
2.Teach students some words mean the same thing but are different in spelling.: maths, favourite, humour, colour, centre, practice.
Step 5 Practice
1.Do the exercise of Part B on Page 19.
2.Complete a report in American English and then complete it again just in British English.
Step 6 Listening and reading
1. Listen to the tape of Comic strop and answer the two questions:
Why don’t dogs go to school in Eddie’s opinion?
What does Eddie think school is like ?
2. Read the conversation together.
3. Translate the phrases and sentences into English.
