StepⅠ Lead-in
Show the flags of the UK and the USA. Tell them that people speak English in both Britain and the USA , but sometimes they use different words which mean the same thing.
T: I know many boys like playing football.
Do you know what it says in American English?
S: Soccer.

StepⅡ While-task
Task1 Practise the new words more. Pay attention to the pronunciations and spelling.
Task2 open their book and match the two words that refer to the same things. Finish Part A on Page 19.Ask the students to write down both the British and American words,
Task3 Get the students to finish doing Part B on page 19. Show the pictures and ask the students to speak out both the British and American words out loudly.
StepⅢ Different spellings
(1)Say: There are also some differences in spelling between British English and American English. Make a table and write down some words. E.g. favourite and favorite, centre and center.
(2)Ask Ss to find more different words means the same thing and different spellings after class.
StepⅣ Comic strips
Ask students to discuss “What’s our school like?”
Do you remember Hobo and Eddie? They are talking about school life.
Listen to the tape and answer: What does Eddie think school is like?
Point out language points: Why don’t you do sth.?=Why not do sth.?
