Teaching procedures:
Lead-in
Ss talk about gifts and their feelings when receiving gifts.
Pre-reading
Ss get to know something about the main characters.
Brainstorm: how could the couple buy gifts for each other without money.
Skimming: Find out the basic elements the story (time, characters, problem)
While-reading
Read and match Della’s feelings to each action of her.
Read the last part, and answer the questions.
Post-reading
Group work: discuss about the story, and the two main characters
Ss tell the theme of the story
Ss finish D1 on P117.
Ss make an end to the story by continuing the conversation between the couple.
Role play: Ss act out the scene made by themselves.
Group work: discuss Ss’ feelings and how they would show their love
Conclusion: the theme of the story: Love is much more valuable than any gift.
Assignment:
Read the story after the tape and get the feelings of the characters.
