Teaching procedures:
Step 1Lead-in
Show a short video of the song “ What a wonderful world”. Help students enjoy the lyrics to the song and focus on the words “wonderful、colorful、beautiful、cheerful”.
Introduce the three parts of a word: root, prefix, and suffix and show this lesson’s task: the suffixes: -ful, and –less.

词汇教学往往会给学生一种枯燥乏味的错觉，因此在导入环节设计了经典英文歌“What a wonderful world”来吸引学生的注意力。动人的画面，轻快的节奏，优美的旋律，不仅有效缓解学生的畏难情绪，而且将学生带入一个愉悦的英语学习氛围中。选择这首歌作为导入的另一个原因是本首歌的歌词与本课的教学内容有联系，通过赏析歌词，可以让学生自然地体会-ful后缀形容词在语境中的表达功能。英文歌曲导入教学符合从感知到理解的认知过程，把语言知识融合于美妙的歌词中，将知识与韵味、抽象与形象紧密地结合起来，为学生提供更多的感性知识和形象材料。
Step 2 Look、 learn and practice
1.Help students look at three groups of pictures and try to describe them with the words “careful and careless, helpful and helpless, useful and useless”.
2.Encourage students to complete the sentences like “ It’s useless to….” “Lily is so helpful that she…”
教学目的：
初二的学生对直接呈现在眼前的图片会比单词要更感兴趣。因此利用图片教词汇，通过两张图片的对比来识别正反义词，有助于课堂更生动有效。在同义词、反义词、同根词、近形词和近音词（包括同音词）之间总是存在着密切的联系的，所以借助于它们之间的联系来进行语境的创设，达到词汇教学的目的。由于所选的图片都是设定在某一特定情境中，因此让学生描述图片，能有助于他们更好的理解正反义词在不同语境中的正确使用。语境在英语词汇教学中具有重要的作用，正如利奇所说 "You know a word by the company it keeps. " "No context ,no text ."在本课中通过创设语境，帮助学生掌握词汇的概念意义并理解词汇的语体意义。
Step 3 Sum up
After the practice, help students sum up. The suffix -ful means “full of” while –less means “without”. We can add –ful or –less to some nouns to form adjs.
教学目的：
通过归纳法，让学生先接触含有“-ful””-less”后缀的形容词，并通过观察、分析例句特点，形成一定程度的感性认识，进而对材料进行加工，总结归纳出构词规则。相比常规的直接告诉学生构词规则，然后去记忆，去使用，归纳法由实践到理论，能充分调动学生的思维活动，发挥他们学习的积极性和主动性。
Step 4 Competition
