Step 1: Lead in and Revision
1. Enjoy a short video of beautiful DIY works.
To create a relaxing atmosphere and arouse Ss’ interest at the beginning of the class.
2. Revise the names of some tools used in DIY
To help Ss recall the learnt knowledge.
Step 2 Presentation
Introduce two friends to students: Andy and Andrew. Then show a video of Andy decorating his house and teach some words.
By this means, Ss can have a deeper impression of the new vocabulary.
Read the words together and test if they’ve remembered the meanings.
To see if they are focused on the class.
Show the video of the passage ”My cousin and DIY” and ask students to divide the passage into three parts.
With the question in mind, Ss will be more focused on listening.
Careful-reading: Learn each part one by one and find out the jobs and the problems.
To have a better understand of the dialogue and know about the details.
Step 3: Activity
Work in pairs and make a new dialogue.One student plays the role of Andy and the other student plays the role of mum.
It’s a great opportunity to practise their spoken English and build up their confidence.
Have a discussion with their partners and use some adjectives to describe Andy.
This activity provides Ss a chance to speak out their own opinion.
Let students talk abut what will they pay attention to when doing DIY.
Try to get as many ideas as possible because it will encourage their creativity.

Retell the story to your parents after class.
