Teaching key and difficult points
The students learn and use imperatives and should/had better in real contexts.
The students are encouraged to give others instructions or advice and be willing to take others' instructions or advice.
Teaching procedures
Step1: Lead in and review
Greet each other and lead in the character -- Andrew.
Review Andrew’s DIY work in the Reading part and guess what his mum may say.
Step2: Activities about giving instructions
Present imperative sentences mentioned and explain how we can give instructions.
Instructions in the three places (in the library, in the street, in the park).
Play our DIY game.
Follow the teacher’s instructions and design game cards.
Play the game
Round 1: Act out some instructions which are written by students.
Round 2: Act out some instructions which are given by the teacher.
Watch the video of how to make cards and complete the instructions.
Step3: Activities about using should and had better
Give advice to me if I know little about DIY.
Explain when we use should and had better.
Give advice to Andrew and me.
Give some DIY advice and make sentences with should (not) or had better (not) (p48).
