Step 2 Before-reading
1. Look at a group of pictures and talk about the qualities these kinds of friends have.
(The first three pictures are easy to talk about.)

How many good friends are mentioned in the article and who are they?
2. Careful reading
a. read the three articles one by one to fill in the blanks
b. do Part B2, B1, B3 and B4 individually after reading the whole article.
Step 4 After reading
Have a discussion.
Who would you choose as your best friend, Betty, Max, May or any one in your class? Use B4 as a model. Students answer with the adjectives they’ve learnt to describe qualities, such as clean, tidy, helpful, honest, etc.
Step 5 Summarize
T: What qualities do our friends always have?
