Step 1: Lead in
Show part of a film and talk about Gulliver.
Introduce the novel Gulliver’s Travels.
Introduce the extract Gulliver in Lilliput from Gulliver’s Travels.
Step 2: Presentation
Talk about the picture on P50 and learn something new about the extract.
Step 3: Watch and Answer
Watch the video and answer three questions.
Step 4: Detailed reading
Read Para 1-2 and answer some questions.
Imagine: If you are Gulliver, how will you feel and what will you do?
Read Para 3 and talk about the small man.
Imagine: If you see such a tiny person, what will you say to him?
Read Para 4 and talk about the tiny people.
Act and describe what the tiny people did.
Read Para 5 and fill in the blanks to talk about what Gulliver and the tiny people did, then Retell this part.
Step 5: Practise
Finish Part B2 on P52.
Make a dialogue in pairs to talk about Gulliver and the tiny people.
Step 6:Group work
Discuss in groups: Imagine an ending for this extract.
Homework:
Read Gulliver in Lilliput loudly after the tape and retell the story.
