Teaching strategies: communicative approach, task based language teaching, thinking activities(prediction,summarizing,comparison and contrast)

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

Do you like reading in your free time?

What kind of books do you like best?

Reading is a ladder of human progress!

〖Purpose〗Lead students to know the importance of books and try to express their opinions in English.

Step 2 Review

Translate 8 phrases into English.

Check the answers.

Read and try to remember them.

〖Purpose〗Remember what they have learned.

Step 3 Presentation

A.1.Show a picture of Gulliver’s Travels.

2.Let a student introduce this novel to others.

3.Watch the trailer for the film.(Q: What do you think of Gulliver?)

4.Teach the new words and phrases.

5.Have a test on the new words. (Finish part B1)

6.Check the answers.

〖Purpose〗This step is designed to arouse students’ interest in the story. Let the students know the main content of the story and remember the new words and phrases.

B. Skimming

Read the text quickly.

Finish part B3 .
