Student analysis
The students going to be taught are in Grade 8. They have already finished learning parts of this unit, which includes Welcome to the unit, Reading and Grammar. So the topic of this new lesson is easy for them to understand. However, it’s a little bit difficult for students to grasp the listening materials about J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter series because of the new words.
Teaching procedures:
Step1: Lead-in
Teacher activities:
Free talk: Ask students some questions about different type of books
Pre-listening: Show students the pictures and names of the five books on the book
Student activities:
Think about what type of book they like best and why
Guess the type of the five books according to the pictures and names
Aims:
To review different type of books
To understand the listening materials better and reduce the difficulty of listening
Step2: Listen and match
Teacher activities: While-listening: Play the tape of part A1 on Page57
Student activities:
Listen to the tape and match
Check the answer with the sentence “...has read.... It’s a... book.”

Step3: Listen and complete --- J.K.Rowling
