Teaching Importance: how to talk about experience.

Study Situation: This unit focuses the topic of travelling and students have learned the past perfect tense. However, some of them didn’t have too much experience and they couldn’t express their ideas confidently. So, this class will be started with some places that they are familiar, and they will be given more chances to express in English. Besides, they need to work with their partners as well as other classmates, too.

Teaching Methods: speaking, listening, individual work, pair work, group work and games.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Starts the class and greeting. (1minute)

Step 2 Lead-in. (3minutes)

Teacher asks: “boys and girls, have you ever read the story Journey to the West ? what’s the main character in the story?”

The teacher shows the conversation between the Monkey King and the emperor on PPT and let girls and boys do a role-play reading.

The teacher says: “We need to help the Monkey King to talk about some places. Are you ready?”

(以《西游记》引出话题,激发学生原有知识和兴趣点。)

Step 3 Introduction. (1minute)

Introduce the goals of this class to students.

Introduce the rules and requirements of this class to students.

(该环节介绍课堂教学目标,同时让学生了解规则和要求。)

Step 4 Presentation 1. (words and sentences) (5minutes)

Show pictures of history museums to the class and the teacher asks: “Do you know this place? What is it?”

Show the target sentences: I have ever been to …; I have never been to…, and help students make a complete sentence like: I have been to a history museum.

Lead students to repeat the sentences for several times.

Show another three pictures of different museums and ask: what’s this? Then choose 3 students to make a complete sentence like: I have ever been to…; I have never been to…. Then let the other students to repeat sentences after the student.

The teacher leads students to change the sentences with “she” ﹨ “he” like: She has ever been to …; She has never been to…. Ask three students to repeat this step.

Choose another 3 students to practice. The teacher asks: Have you ever been to…? Help students answer with “Yes” or “No”. Then give questions to the rest: “Has she ﹨he ever been to…?” and help them to answer with “Yes” or “No”.

Step 5 Chain Drill. (5 minutes)

Give 3 pictures and choose 3 groups to do chain drill like:

Student1: Have you ever been to…? (to student 2)

Student2: Yes﹨No. Have you ever been to…? (to student 3)

All students in a group should finish the practice.

Evaluation and question:

Has student 2 ever been to …?
