2. Provide students with scaffoldings.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Lead-in (Pre-reading)
1) Lead students to learn about the Walt Disney Company with Disney pictures;
2) Prevision checking:
Ask Students what is special about Disneyland. Visualize and implant some key words such as cartoon characters, parade, 4-D film, roller coaster, fireworks with pictures.
Step 2 While-reading
Students to understand the text through various tasks:
1) Scan for answers to Amy’s questions:
Students look through the text quickly and finish B1
2) Word game
Students Explain (eg. create a situation) new words in English or act them out to help other classmates guess!
3) Students scan the text and work out Kitty’s route.
4) Students skim the text and complete a chart with three items: time, place and activities. Students listen to the text recording and complete B2.
5) Detailed reading: T&F Qs.
6) Pair work: Students complete B3 with partners.
7) Students hunt for sentences in the text that show Millie’s happy feelings; Provide more useful expressions for S.
Step3: After-Reading
Students give presentations on their trip to Shanghai Disneyland
1) Background introduction
2) Individual sharing with given useful expressions
3) Group Work: Ss share their own experiences within their own groups
