Step 1 Lead-in
Learn today’s proverb: Books are the ladder of human progress. and lead in this lesson. Introduce my reading habits and teach new words and phrases.
T: In my spare time, I like reading. I like to read different types of books, such as health, cooking and travel. I am especially interested in novels because some stories in the novels often touch me. Books help me improve my knowledge. I have just read a novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame by the French writer Victor Hugo. It’s a book about the ugly man Quasimodo.

Step 3 Presentation
1. Different types of books
Part A : Show some pictures of different types of books. Write the type of book under each picture. Then put a tick in the box if you have read this type of book before.
2. Listen and answer
Part B : Sandy and Daniel are talking about what they like to read. Listen to the conversation and answer the following questions.

(2) What type of book is Daniel interested in?
(3) What does Sandy like to read?
